GB is gigabyte, 1,000,000,000 bytes.
TB is terabyte,  1,000,000,000,000 bytes.
500 GB = 0.5 TB.

Those numbers mean nothing to many.  Let’s measure in a real world sense.


A CD is 700 MB.
A DVD is 4.7 GB.

Depending on the sizes of the photos, one CD can hole up 150 to 1000 photos , and 1GB holds 300-1500 photos.

1TB can save 250- 1495 full length DVD movies, based on quality of the movies.

Today, the storage of a hard drive in a computer is from 500GB to 1TB. 

Common memory cards for a camera or smartphone are from16 GB to 64GB.

Most important, unless you are  a photo lovers or a movie collector, there is no way to fill up a hard drive in a computer today.

Truth is, users might not need a big hard drive in a computer or smartphone, if they use the Cloud wisely.
